Advertising

Advertising is a very special form of mass communication. Through the media, advertisers freely attempt to persuade all of us to take hold of their ideas. Advertising is also a form of news in that it is an information link between buyer and seller, and is a marker of current societal trends.

Advertising is the primary source of income in the newspaper industry. It allows newspapers to sell issues at an affordable rate. Without ads, a single copy of the newspaper would cost more than $5.00! Advertising plays a key role in ensuring freedom of the press. If newspapers had to depend on one source - say the government - they would be financially dependent and unable to express their personal views freely because they must agree with their supporter.

National advertisements simultaneously appear in many newspapers nationwide and they promote manufacturer's brand products. Retail advertisements promote their store's merchandise.

Advertisements are placed in specific locations in order to achieve maximum effectiveness.

An effective advertisement should be eye-catching, attractive, and informative.
